The Bihar Water Development Society (BWDS) operates under the auspices of the Patna Archdiocese, dedicated to uplifting marginalized communities, securing water resources, and driving sustainable rural transformation. Since its inception, BWDS has evolved from grassroots water conservation efforts into a comprehensive development organization addressing education, women's empowerment, sustainable agriculture, and child rights.
Our journey has been guided by an unwavering belief in human dignity, social justice, and participatory governance, ensuring that the poorest and most vulnerable households are equipped to lead lives of self-reliance and honor.
BWDS was established under the Patna Archdiocese to tackle severe agrarian water crises and droughts in rural Bihar. Initial efforts concentrated on building check dams, farm ponds, and reviving traditional water reservoirs to secure groundwater tables.
Recognizing that women are core catalysts for community change, BWDS pioneered grassroots Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs). This initiative introduced micro-credit training, leadership development, and independent micro-enterprise support.
To combat child labor and dropout rates among marginalized families, BWDS launched community learning centers ("Hamari Pathshala") alongside anti-child trafficking committees to safeguard children's rights.
Expanding partnerships with global networks like BMZ, BWDS integrates climate-resilient farming techniques, digital literacy, and streamlined community welfare execution across multiple districts of Bihar.
