The Bihar Water Development Society (BWDS) did not come into being by chance; it was born out of profound foresight, deep empathy, and unyielding dedication during one of Bihar's most challenging historical epochs—the severe droughts of the mid-1960s. The visionary church leaders, social pioneers, and administrators who served as the founder fathers laid down a sturdy foundation focused on relief, resilience, and human dignity.
Operating under the spiritual and administrative umbrella of the Patna Archdiocese, the early pioneers recognized that fighting recurrent drought and poverty required more than temporary relief measures. They envisioned a structured, institutional agency capable of executing community-managed irrigation, fostering cooperative self-reliance, and uplifting marginalized households from the grass-roots up.
