Asha Skill Development Project
INTRODUCTION
Asha is a skill development project funded by ASHA group, Germany which is being implemented by BWDS for Rural Dalit girls & boys of Bihar. This project runs from January – December and is renewed on yearly basis. The goal of the project is to enhance skills of rural Dalit girls & boys through Spoken English, Computer awareness so as to capacitate them to secure a job in the market. The project has two major components; Non-Residential Computer Training Program and Residential Summer Camp Program.
Goal
Help poor rural Dalit girls and boys gain important skills so they can meet the demand of today’s job market.
Objective
Primarily there are 3 main objectives of the ASHA project:

Project Program Intervention
- Non-Residential Computer Training Program
A computer trainer traveled to various parishes to conduct two-week digital literacy classes for rural girls and boys selected by the local parishes. The training aimed to equip students with essential computer skills, enhancing their digital knowledge and opportunities. Throughout the program, multiple batches were organized, ensuring that participants received hands-on learning experiences. The initiative provided structured computer education, helping students gain confidence in using technology for their academic and professional growth.
- Residential Summer Camp Program
A 21-day summer camp is organized annually, bringing together rural girls and boys from various parishes to participate in an enriching learning experience. The program focuses on holistic development through classes in Spoken English, Personality Development, and Computer Literacy, equipping participants with essential skills for their academic and personal growth. In addition to classroom learning, the camp includes exposure visits to places like the Science Center, Patna Zoo, and Museum, providing students with practical learning opportunities. To encourage creativity and cultural expression, a cultural program featuring songs, dance, and skits is performed by the students, fostering confidence and teamwork.
Achievements
The ASHA project has been a transformative initiative, empowering over 300 Dalit boys and girls annually through education and skill development. Each year, more than 50 girls participate in the intensive summer camp, gaining valuable knowledge in spoken English, personality development, and computer literacy. Additionally, the project runs a robust digital skills training program, conducting 10 batches with 15 students in each, equipping them with essential technological competencies. This initiative has significantly contributed to bridging the digital divide and fostering confidence among marginalized youth, opening new opportunities for their future.
