Bihar Water Development Society (BWDS), Patna was established on 14th December 1967, in response to the severe drought and famine that struck Bihar in 1966–1967. Founded under the initiative of Rev. Fr. R. M. Donahue, S.J., it emerged from the relief work of Catholic Charities to continue long-term humanitarian and development activities. BWDS has since been dedicated to water resource development, agriculture, and community upliftment across Central and South Bihar.
